FASTING & PRAYER pt.1
Day 8 of 12-Day Devotions | 10 May 2021 | Paul Magno
In Derek’s Prince book, “Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting”, Prince asks, “Is there a divine Power that overrules the destinies of nations? Can this power effectively be invoked by prayer and fasting?”
The answer, of course, is a resounding YES.
In the Bible, collective fasting and prayer brought forth dramatic, and miraculous releases of God’s power and purposes. For example in 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat of Judah received a report of looming invasion by a vast army from the east. Jehoshaphat proclaims a fast throughout all Judah and gathers its people to a solemn assembly. In that solemn assembly, the people humbled themselves before the Lord through fasting and prayers of repentance were offered, with reminders of God’s power to deliver from Israel’s history invoked before the Lord.
The result of this day of fasting and prayer — a solemn assembly — was the prophetic utterance of Jahaziel, with instructions on how to engage the invading army. The following day, King Jehoshaphat and Judah advanced against the army from the east, with Levites and praise at the forefront. The enemy destroyed themselves and a supernatural victory was won.
Such is the power of collective fasting and prayer that’s available to us today. Such is the impact of our spiritual weapons in Christ — they have the power to change history, destroy invading armies, avert impending disaster, and reverse judgment.
PRAY THIS:
Oh Lord, teach us the power of fasting and release the grace to fast upon our lives! May You call Your people to fast and pray for the release of Your power and the establishing of Your purposes in our nation, and may we respond with urgency and passion, not indifference and passivity. Oh Lord, send Revival to Australia! In Jesus’ name, amen.
